THE WOMEN
OF VISION
OUR MISSION STATEMENT
The intention of the women of BUFFALO WOMAN'S VISION
is to open a space within for creative energy to flow through all aspects of our life paths. Encompassing the ancient and contemporary, we honor the sacred feminine by sharing our creative manifestations with
All Our Relations.

MAHTOWIN (Woman Who Walks with Bears), of Blackfoot/German ancestry, is a storyteller, ceremonialist, spiritual teacher, and gifted Native American artist. She walks with a quiet heart and shares a special wisdom learned through years of family influence, travel, and study of the ceremonies, cultures, and traditions of Native tribes throughout the United States.
Mahtowín’s creativity in teaching, storytelling, and art is drawn from those traditions, as well as deep within herself.
MARTA QUEST (Laughing Otter) studied Native ceremony under the guidance of Marilyn Youngbird, a Hidatsa-Arikara Medicine Woman. In 1987 she discovered her LOVE of drumming, and has been making Drums and teaching Drummaking for 20 years. Enjoying work with natural elements, Marta has expanded her repertoire of Native art by painting beautiful images on Drums, and creating Rattles, Talking Sticks, Custom Drum Beaters, Smudge Fans, and Snake Totems.
Her other passions are pre-publishing design and copyediting, a vocation 45 years in the making.

BUFFALO WOMAN'S VISION Is a 20-year-old
woman-owned and -operated business.
We began by making Native American items
that had a teaching to share.
In 1990, on a trip to Arizona, Mahtowín
came across a vendor of Buffalo robes.
While there, she wrapped around her
shoulders a robe that spoke to her. She felt
the connection with the one from whom it came.
The Buffalo is considered by most Native Americans to be the totem keeper of the North — the place of storms of wisdom — the place where we learn to share what we know and nourish others with the bounty of ourselves. This is where we learn to stand alone, face the cold, and take care of others. The north is also the place where we come to stand in our truth. The Buffalo represents the giving of oneself for the good of all. The Buffalo gave itself to the people for food, shelter, clothing, tools, and weapons.
The Buffalo robe was waiting. She realized that she was to be the keeper of this robe and purchased it. The Buffalo robe continued to share information and added direction to what Mahtowín was doing, and so she named her business BUFFALO WOMAN'S VISION.
Marta Quest joined the endeavor in 1995 and offered her vision and expertise in drummaking and pre-publishing to the business.
We trust you will see the love and commitment we share in creating beautiful artwork for your use and pleasure. Thank you for looking!
